Ford Unveils All-Electric F-100 Eluminator Concept

Ford today previews the future of electrified custom vehicles with the reveal of the all-electric F-100 Eluminator concept – a zero-tailpipe-emissions demonstration truck powered by the all-new Ford Performance Parts Eluminator electric crate motor that customers can now buy online.

The “all-electric Ford F-100 Eluminator concept truck” features the retro styling of a 1978 F-100 pickup with electric motors and batteries from the automaker’s 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. The interior controls and screens also resemble the Mach-E electric crossover.

Ford has built the vehicle to showcase its new “e-box engine,” now available online and at its dealerships. Such “crate” motors are assembled by the company but are available for general sale to build, repair or customize vehicles.

“The F-100 Eluminator concept is a preview of how we are helping customers transition to all-electric powertrains and zero-emission vehicles, even on our heritage vehicles,” Eric Cin, Ford global director of accessories and licensing, said in a statement.

The customized pickup is also generating some hype for the automaker, preparing to launch its electric F-150 Lightning pickup in the first half of next year. Many see the pickup as a barometer of whether customers of pickups – which dominate annual sales charts in the U.S. – are ready to switch to electric vehicles.

This concept pickup can produce 480 horsepower and 634 foot-pounds of torque, according to Ford. Ford Performance designed and developed it in collaboration with aftermarket companies such as MLe Racecars and Roadster Store.

“The fact is, electric performance is fun, and as the industry moves toward electric vehicles, motorsports and the performance aftermarket will too,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance. “Just as Ford is committed to leading the electric revolution on the product side, Ford Performance is equally committed to winning on the performance and motorsports front.”

According to the company, each of Ford’s E-Crate engines produces 281 horsepower and 317 foot-pounds of torque and is street legal in all 50 states.

The Ford F-100 Eluminator was recently unveiled in Las Vegas at the SEMA Show, an annual automotive and aftermarket industry.

The aftermarket business is significant to the automotive industry. Automakers unveil unique vehicles at the show each year to gauge consumer interest and showcase new aftermarket products like Ford’s e-scratch motor.

According to the Specialty Equipment Market Association, which hosts the annual show, the aftermarket industry is $44.6 billion.

Over time, Ford Performance plans to develop a wider list of components for the Eluminator powertrain with some of the leading performance manufacturers, including battery systems, controllers and traction inverters to close the loop on full turnkey aftermarket electrification solutions.
