Jaguar Land Rover’s chief engineer Nick Rogers, who has led the development o f vehicles such as the Jaguar I-Pace, the F-Pace and the Land Rover Defender, has announced that he will leave the company at the end of this year after 37 years.
Rogers, who was appointed to the top job in 2015, led JLR‘s engineering team at a crucial time in the company’s history. Not only did he develop the electric I-Pace and launch it ahead of major competitors, but he was also responsible for the rebirth of the highly anticipated Land Rover Defender. His latest project to be unveiled is the new Range Rover.
Where Rogers is going or who will succeed him has not yet been confirmed. A JLR spokesperson said: “His successor will be announced in the coming weeks.
In a statement on LinkedIn, he said, “For over 37 years, it has been an honour to work with such an incredible team of people to develop and bring to market some of the most desirable vehicles in the world.
The recent launches of the New Defender and New Range Rover are a testament to how the JLR family has transformed and grown – the perseverance, determination and pioneering passion is incredible.
“Today, after almost four decades, it is time to hand over a more substantial technical team than ever before, with the pioneering passion for continuing to develop ground-breaking products in this ever-changing world.
JLR CEO Thierry Bolloré said, “I would like to thank Nick for his incredible 37 years with our company. Over the past decades, Nick has witnessed, shaped and led so much of Land Rover‘s – and Jaguar Land Rover’s – history. We wish him every success for the future.”
Rogers joined Land Rover in 1984 as an apprentice technician, working in body engineering and vehicle testing. He rose through the ranks to become director of Land Rover’s vehicle line before being appointed to his most recent executive director, product engineering, at Jaguar Land Rover.
Speaking to Autos Community in 2020, Rogers said, “There has never been a better time to be an engineer: We need to push the boundaries of petrol and diesel technology and ensure we can offer efficient three, four, six and V8 engines. We also need to have mild and full hybrid solutions ready and be part of the battery-electric revolution.”
