CAR CONCEPTS

Meet Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Concept

After we have the ID. Buzz and the ID. Buzz Cargo, VW has launched the next phase of its “Why you should buy our electric van” plan by showing people and businesses how they can use it.

As a result, a quartet of ID. Buzz concepts were commissioned, including the refrigerator on wheels seen below. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a Buzz Cargo with a ‘box body’ designed by ‘body specialist’ Veth.

The practical shape increases the interior space from 3.9 cubic metres to six points zero and is designed for couriers with lots of parcels and packages. It doesn’t do much stylistically, though.

Ironically, next up is another Buzz Cargo, a fridge on wheels: this rather conventional-looking white-dark blue unit has been adapted by Wukaro.

It is meant for delivering frozen food to restaurants and the like in the city centre. And no, that’s not an air intake for the motor on the roof but an electric 230-volt cooling system powered by four lithium-ion batteries secreted in the wheel arches. Suitable for six-to-eight hours of independent running…

Then you have an ID. Buzz Flex-Cab concept (a five-seater with a configurable layout) and a “medical vehicle” equipped with everything a first responder needs to keep you alive.

A separate battery system powers lights and sirens, so the trip to the emergency room does not result in a fatal loss of range.

Do you have any other ideas for VW that you could take up for our amusement?

The Refrigerator on Wheels. It is a Buzz Cargo with a ‘box body’, courtesy of ‘superstructure specialist’ Veth.
