Titled Project Vector, Jaguar-Land Rover recently revealed the utilitarian, cube-ish vehicle. Project Vector shows an advanced, flexible, multi-use electric vehicle that is ‘autonomy-ready’, with an on-road pilot programme planned from late 2021.
The compact, flexible vehicle concept measures just four metres in length and is designed for the city, packaging all its battery and drivetrain components into a flat floor, to allow a variety of uses. The revolutionary interior cabin space allows seating configurations for private, or shared use and even the opportunity for commercial applications, such as last mile deliveries.
The vehicle is an “autonomy-ready” electric car (note there’s still a steering wheel present), and it’s mighty flexible, according to the automaker. Like many multipurpose concept vehicles, it has room for a group of people in a shared setting, or a configuration that keeps things more private. As is the trend, the skateboard platform lets Jaguar-Land Rover cram all the battery and drivetrain components into a flat floor, which significantly opens up interior and cargo room.

Jaguar-Land Rover didn’t dive into the specifics surrounding Project Vector, however, so we don’t know how big the battery is, or how far it’ll go before needing to the plugin. Overall, the automaker was keen to underscore; it truly believes this is how a vast majority of people will travel in the future.
The vision calls for these kinds of mobility boxes to dart around cities and integrates into public transportation networks. Plus, Project Vector is meant to coexist with today’s private vehicles, not replace them outright.

Jaguar-Land Rover said the concept was built with a mobility service in mind, which it plans to launch in 2021. Project Vector will address the wider landscape of mobility, from how customers connect with mobility services, to the infrastructure required to enable fully integrated, autonomous vehicles in our cities.
The intention is to collaborate with Coventry City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority to plan a mobility service from late 2021, as a living laboratory for future mobility on the streets of Coventry.
