RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce The 20th Century Collection, to be offered in Monaco over 10-11 May. Offered from a formidable collection, many of the 16 cars are presented in highly original condition and provide a rare opportunity to carry out either gentle recommissioning or ground-up restorations, with the benefit of matching numbers and factory build sheets.

Among the standout examples in the collection are a 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II and a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV. The Series II was delivered new to a customer in Newport Beach, California and retains its matching-numbers engine as well as being finished in its highly desirable factory-correct colour of California Sage. More special still, it is also one of just 349 factory-built left-hand-drive examples in existence (Estimate: €150,000 – €200,000 EUR). The Series IV was first delivered to New York, and was factory equipped with overdrive, electric windows, chrome wheels, and four red fitted suitcases. Retaining its matching-numbers engine, this desirable Series IV model is estimated to sell between €150,000 – €200,000 EUR.

The Aston Martin theme is continued with a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage and a 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk 2 Vantage. The 1966 DB6 is thought to be one of just 268 examples of the DB6 Vantage coupé and is powered by a powerful 4.0-litre, 325-horsepower engine. This car was first delivered to Mr R. Robinson of Hyde Hall, Rettendon, Essex and is estimated to sell for between €100,000 – €150,000 EUR. The Mk 2 is even rarer, being one of just 71 Vantage-specification DB6 Mk 2s produced from 1969 to 1970, with this example originally leaving the factory in the striking combination of Platinum over Black Connolly leather  (Estimate: €125,000 – €175,000 EUR). The DB6s are joined by a 1976 Aston Martin V8 Series III, which will be offered without reserve (Estimate: €30,000 – €60,000 EUR).

Ferraris also feature prominently in the collection, led by a 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series I ‘Interim’ by Pininfarina. Imported to the USA by Luigi Chinetti Motors of New York, this fine example and is accompanied with a report by marque historian Marcel Massini (Estimate: €100,000 – €150,000 EUR). Also on offer is a 1971 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 by Pininfarina, notable for being one of only 16 specified with an automatic gearbox. Retaining its matching-numbers 4.4-litre V-12 engine, it is estimated to sell for between €80,000 – €120,000 EUR and will be offered without reserve.

The collection also boasts five Rolls-Royces, each offered entirely without reserve. The first is a 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Drophead Coupé Adaptation ‘Prototype’ by H. J. Mulliner. Originally built on a saloon chassis and adapted to a Drophead Coupé by H. J. Mulliner, it is one of just 13 examples in this specification. Furthermore, this special car is noted in factory records as a ‘Prototype’ example;it is believed to be among the first of its type ever made (Estimate: €80,000 – €120,000 EUR). This is followed by a 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Drophead Coupé by Park Ward, which is believed to be one of a mere five examples that were bodied by Park Ward. The ideal basis for a restoration project, it is estimated to sell between €80,000 – €120,000 EUR.

Also offered is a pair of Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn Drophead Coupés by Park Ward, dating from 1952 and 1953. The 1952 example is presented in its factory-correct colour pairing of Black over a Tan leather interior, while the 1953 example retains its matching-numbers engine and is accompanied by factory build sheets. Both are estimated to sell for between €80,000 – €120,000 EUR. Also within the collection is a 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupé by Mulliner Park Ward, which is estimated at €60,000 – €80,000 EUR.

The luxury theme continues with two 1962 Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupés by Park Ward. One is offered in its factory-correct Sand exterior colour while the second, was originally configured in Velvet Green and is now finished in dark blue. The duo will be offered without reserve in Monaco, and are estimated to sell for between €60,000 – €80,000 EUR.

Rounding off this exceptional collection is a 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Coupé. The example on offer was comprehensively restored some years ago and has seen little use since. In excellent condition throughout, this matching-numbers Porsche will require light recommissioning and is finished in desirable yellow paintwork over a houndstooth interior (Estimate: €50,000 – €75,000 EUR). Finally, rounding out the collection is an elegant 1950 Mercedes-Benz 170 S Cabriolet A finished in two-tone cream over black arches and a soft-top cabriolet hood. Presenting a rare opportunity for restoration back to its former glory, it is estimated at €30,000 – €50,000 EUR.
