Lynk & Co Cyan Racing returns to Morocco and the streets of Marrakech this weekend for the first time since 2019 for round two of the KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour, the circuit where the team claimed its first world touring car win with Lynk & Co five years ago.

Santiago Urrutia will make his debut at Circuit Moulay El Hassan. The Uruguayan racer is the best-placed driver of the team, in fifth position overall after the Vallelunga opener two weeks ago.

“It’s going to be an exciting race weekend for sure. While I’ve never raced here before, there are changes made to the circuit compared to 2019 and everyone will have to adapt. We had an okay first race weekend with good points and I hope we can improve on the lack of speed we had in Vallelunga,” said Santiago Urrutia.

Thed Björk wrote history at Marrakech in 2019, claiming the first world touring car win for Lynk & Co with Cyan Racing and is keen to return.

“I love racing in Marrakech and I obviously have really fond memories from 2019 when we won during our first race weekend with Lynk & Co. The circuit has changed since we were here last time, but I think the changes will make the racing even more intense. As we saw in the first race two weeks ago, we will have to fight really hard for the points this season and I’m ready,” said Thed Björk.

Team-mates Yann Ehrlacher, who finished second in Italy last month, and Ma Qing Hua have both plenty of experience on the Moroccan street circuit.

“Marrakech is always a nice place to race at and it’s kind of my home race with a lot of French-speaking fans there. We need to adapt the setup to the new track, especially as it will be really warm. Qualifying will be really important to score good points this weekend. We showed good speed in the first race weekend considering the circumstances and I think this will also be a tough weekend, but we need to keep scoring the points,” said Yann Ehrlacher.

“I’ve raced touring cars and Formula E in Marrakech. It’s a great place and an exciting circuit to race at. The new layout is a new challenge, which means we have to gather new data for our setup. Hopefully, we can improve this weekend compared to Italy, but there are obviously a lot of unknowns,” said Ma Qing Hua.

The KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour field will race on a shorter version of the Marrakech street circuit than in previous years, providing fans with more action throughout the race weekend.

The Moroccan race weekend starts with practice and qualifying on Friday, followed by two races on Saturday.
