4 Signs of Oil Leakage and How To Fix It

Oil is an essential part of our vehicle’s engine. Knowing the signs of oil leakage and how to resolve the issue will make it easier to maintain your car.

Numerous things may go wrong with our vehicles, and oil leakage is one of the most common issues. When oil leaks from our cars, it may lead to numerous problems within the vehicle that may cause permanent damage. Identifying signs of oil leakage and how to fix it will help you ensure your vehicle remains intact.

A Trail of Dark Liquid

If you see a dark fluid pooling from the bottom of the car, your engine is leaking oil that’s exiting the vehicle entirely. Examining the pooling oil will tell you various things, such as the strength of the leakage. If the pool is deeper and darker, the leak is consistent and needs quick attention.

Blue Smoke

Smoke with a bluish tint from underneath the hood or tailpipe is a common sign of an oil leakage that you need to fix. The smoke comes from burning oil that has leaked onto the engine’s heated parts. Blue smoke is also an indicator of your turbocharger’s oil leaking, so the best solution is to check under the hood to locate the main source of the leakage.

A Lower Mark on the Dipstick

Checking the dipstick will help you determine if your oil is leaking. The dipstick will tell you how much oil is in the tank. It has a line indicating the depth of the oil and how much is necessary for the vehicle. If you notice the amount of oil reaches a line on the dipstick that’s lower than normal, you most likely have an oil leak, especially if this constantly occurs even after filling the oil tank. Locate the source of the leak to prevent it from proceeding to let out oil. Also, check your dipstick to ensure the repair works.

A Grinding Within the Engine

Oil is responsible for lubricating the engine’s moving parts, such as the pistons and crankshaft. When the oil leaks in your car, these parts may begin to grind due to the lack of lubrication. Keeping these parts well-oiled is important for preventing harsh damage to the engine that’ll affect the vehicle’s overall structure.

How To Fix Oil Leakage

The oil in our engines remains where it should because of rubber seals in various areas where it flows. These sealants may grow weak and cause oil to spill, but there are ways to repair them. The quickest and easiest way is to use an additive that expands and that the seal absorbs, essentially repairing any gaps.

But for those who don’t want to fix the problem themselves, an auto shop is always a great option to handle oil leakage problems. The worker at the repair shop will inspect your vehicle, locate any oil spills, and fix them immediately.

It’s important to keep oil in your car. When you have an oil leak, it’ll create potential problems that you’ll need to resolve quickly. Understanding these signs will help you in the future to keep your vehicle running well and keep the oil inside the engine.
