You may know that – before his sad death at the end of November 2021 – Mercedes had been collaborating with the highly talented Virgil Abloh.
Abloh was not only the founder of the fashion brand Off-White and the artistic director of Louis Vuitton but also a man with the longest job title in the world. It read something like Versatile artist, architect, creative director, fashion designer and philanthropist Virgil Abloh.
In September 2020, Mercedes unveiled the first car to come out of the collaboration – the race car-inspired G-Wagen, known as Project Gelaendewagen. Then, in December last year, we were shown the Project Maybach – an all-electric off-road coupe concept dreamed up by Abloh and Mercedes design chief Gordon Wagener.
Now we finally see the final car to come out of that project, and it’s one you can buy if you are incredibly wealthy and can afford a limited edition Maybach.
Yes, the Maybach by Virgil Abloh you see above will be only 150 pieces. The Maybach by Virgil Abloh is based on a fully loaded Mercedes Maybach S-Class S680 and is finished in a unique two-tone paint scheme with an obsidian blacktop and a sand-coloured bottom. We also really like the body-coloured monobloc wheels.
Inside, there’s a matching colour scheme, the Maybach four-seat layout, and plenty of unique badging.
According to Merc, there is also a customised user interface for the infotainment system with different icons and graphics that distinguish it from a “normal” Maybach.
These Maybachs are just so common, aren’t they?
