5 Things You Didn’t Know About Electric Cars

0 1,495

Electric cars are better for the environment, but it’s nice to know which areas of your life will be affected by switching from gasoline to electricity.

You know that alternative-energy vehicles are hot news right now, but what’s the benefit? Here are five things you might not know about these electric cars that will help you decide whether they’re right for you.

Environmentally Conscious

You might think that electric vehicles are only for the environmentally conscious, but you’d be wrong. Electric cars have become more affordable and practical than ever, making them an attractive option for any driver.

They are much better for our planet, but they can cost significantly more than traditional vehicles. Consider your lifestyle and budget before purchasing your first luxury vehicle.

Size Matters

Another thing you didn’t know about electric cars is that they have changed in size. There used to be a misconception that electric cars take up more space in your garage. However, gas-powered cars are typically bigger and heavier than their electric counterparts; they also require more room for fuel storage. Even electric SUVs are smaller in comparison.

Charging Challenges

The next time you’re planning a road trip and fear being stranded in the middle of nowhere with no way to charge your car, don’t worry. Some electric cars have a range of up to 350 miles, which should be enough for most people’s daily commutes—or even longer road trips.

How long it takes to fully charge your vehicle varies. In places like Italy and Sweden, technology allows cars to be charged while driving on innovative charging roads. These systems embed special coils in the pavement that send magnetic frequencies to a charging pad held underneath the vehicle. This technology is being tested in Michigan in a first-of-its-kind infrastructure project.

Maintenance Costs

Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than gas-powered vehicles, which means they’re less likely to break down and require maintenance. Electric vehicles are also more efficient than their gas-powered counterparts, meaning they use less energy. This makes them cheaper to maintain in the long run.

0 to 60

Torque is what gives engines their power. Electric cars have almost twice the torque of gasoline vehicles, and more torque means you can accelerate faster with less effort.

The Tesla Roadster used to hold the title for the fastest electric vehicle. Today, cars such as the Rimac Nevera, an electric hybrid, can go 0 to 60 in 1.85 seconds and reach a max speed of 258 mph. There is power behind these environmentally friendly designs!

It’s easy to assume that electric cars are more expensive than their gasoline-powered counterparts, but this isn’t always the case. If you’re looking at buying an EV instead of a gas-powered car, you don’t necessarily need deep pockets.
