During the offseason, Panasonic Jaguar Racing have spent time focusing on developing a new powertrain, improving the efficiency of the Jaguar I-TYPE 2, and utilising high strength lightweight materials to optimise the design and packaging of key components. These improvements were put to the test over the three-days, enabling the team to gather as much information as they could ahead of the season kick off in December.

James Barclay, Team Director of Panasonic Jaguar Racing, said: “Pre-season testing is such an important stage for us in our technical development. It was the first time running four Jaguar I-TYPE 2 racecars together, and we have collected a lot of data from the runs. Overall, it’s been positive and we’re looking forward to the season ahead. We are optimistic but will be working flat out until Hong Kong.”

For Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s newest driver, Nelson Piquet Jr, it was his first time working alongside teammate Mitch Evans in the team garage. He said: “It’s been a great couple of days. The first day for me was like my first day at school – some new faces, a new team – but it’s been a positive week. Our track times have been where we want them to be, and we have gained a lot of invaluable information ahead of the first race.  The Jaguar team has great energy and I’m looking forward to Hong Kong.”

Mitch Evans said: “It’s been a good week and it’s great to get to know Nelson more and work together as a unified race team. As always there have been a lot of learnings, but we won’t know until we get to Hong Kong how we will compare against the other teams.  We are positive about the improvements we have made – the efficiency and weight of the car are much improved – that will help us be more competitive next season.”
