The C5 Aircross: We Never Have an SUV Gone So Far

The “people-minded SUV” is actually a Peugeot 3008 in disguise, albeit with a number of mechanical mods. The suspension system is arguably the biggest difference, with the C5 Aircross benefiting from Progressive Hydraulic Cushions. As a direct replacement for the Hydractive 3+ hydropneumatics offered in the second-gen C5, these babies are described as “unlike anything else on the market.”

Citroen goes a step further with the braggadocio, emphasizing that the C5 Aircross is “the most comfortable SUV of its time.” That’s a subtitle the automaker used in the attached press release, and for what it’s worth, it’s wrong. Bearing in mind there’s no mention of vehicle segment whatsoever, what Citroen tries to say is the C5 Aircross is more comfortable than, wait for it, the Bentley Bentayga.

 An Assertive SUV

The C5 Aircross marks its difference into the world of SUVs with its extreme, original and fresh attitude. It has a unique morphology and a right balance between protection and fluidity of lines. Its also suggests an impression of space on board, where colours and materials create both individual and relaxed atmosphere in a very stripped back style.

A modern SUV

The C5 Aircross offers space, wide quilt-effect seats, and plenty of light, owing to its panoramic sunroof. Inside the car the foundations of the Citroën Advanced Comfort® program can be seen, and technology serves to improve ease of use, for example: the colour head-up display an aesthetic blade in the continuity of the instrument cluster, single spoke steering wheel with intuitive commands, rearview camera vision and wireless induction charging for smartphones.

With a total output of 300 horsepower and all-wheel-drive spec thanks to the electric motors, the  C5 Aircross has the makings of an instant hit. Furthermore, in all-electric mode, Citroen believes that the Plug-In Hybrid PHEV e-AWD is good for a range of 60 kilometres.
